Joe Gorga serves as the Vice President of Equity and Instruction at Diablo Valley College, where he is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating the college’s instructional programs and services. This includes the overall coordination, implementation, evaluation, and improvement of the college curricula and its instructional faculty and staff, activities, services, and facilities.
Joe holds a PhD in Marine Science from UC Sana Barbara and a BA in Marine Science from the University of San Diego. He joined the faculty of DVC in 2007 as Professor of Biology and Oceanography at the San Ramon Campus and served as the Dean of Biological and Physical Sciences for 5 years.
Throughout his career, Joe has remained keenly focused on the student experience and perspective. Joe is passionate about equitable pedagogy and has focused much of his work on closing the equity gap through developing dual-enrollment programs, professional development work on equitable pedagogy, and co-leading the Diversifying Hiring Practices Work Group. Joe is currently working on developing clear academic pathways for students, and making sure that students are supported through those pathways to reach their academic goals.
Outside of DVC, Joe likes to spend time with his family at the beach or exploring the outdoors and rooting for the NY Giants!
